Burma's most prominent political dissident, U Win Tin says he will continue to strive for freedom for the people of his nation.
He says the current democratic reforms underway in his country are not complete, but he's both hopeful and happy at the progress being made.
U Win Tin was jailed in 1989 for 20 years for his writing.
Along with Aung San Suu Kyi, he is one of three surviving founding members of the National League for Democracy.
U Win Tin was released from jail in September 2008.
He has told Radio Australia's Connect Asia his battle for freedom including the jail sentence he has served hopefully has helped pave the way for developing democracy in Burma.
"We hope that by striving for democracy, we think there is no more arrests, or no more sending to jail for the people," he said.
He said he won't be changing his course in life.
" For the last 20 years we have been striving for democracy and human rights and for peace in Burma."
