Two earthquakes that occurred inside Myanmar on
Wednesday morning caused no damage to dams inside Thailand, an
Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat)official said.
Veerachai Chaisakaew, a director for maintenance who oversees the strength of all dams under Egat , said the first quake, with a magnitude of 4.6, occurred at 6.12am and the second, measured at 4.2 on the Richter scale, was at 6.13am.
The epicentre of the quakes was 663 kilometres from Srinakarin dam and 600km from Vajiralongkorn dam in Kanchanaburi province, 391km from Bhumibol dam in Tak, and 491km from Sirikit dam in Uttaradit.
The two quakes caused no damage to the dams, he said.
Mr Veerachai said Egat regularly checks the structural integrity of all dams. Modern equipment has been installed to compile data and send a warning when anything unusual is detected.
