YANGON, Myanmar — A party official says Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi will speak at an economic conference next week in Thailand’s capital, in her first trip abroad in 24 years. ,The senior member of Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy said Wednesday that she will speak at the World Economic Forum on East Asia, being held May 30-June 1.
Myanmar’s reformist President Thein Sein is also scheduled to speak at the forum.
Suu Kyi is also planning a later trip to Europe, including a stop in Oslo to deliver her acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize which she won nearly 21 years ago. She was held under house arrest for much of that period.
