BANGKOK, May 28 (Bernama) -- Myanmar President Thein Sein will not be
able to join the three-day World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia here,
starting Wednesday, while the country's opposition leader Aung San Suu
Kyi has confirmed her attendance.
World Economic Forum Senior Director and Head of Asia Suchant
Palakurthi Rao said Thein Sein had also postponed his official visit to
this country, a few days after the forum.
Initially, Thein Sein was scheduled to attend the forum, as well as make his official visit to this country, during the period.
According to the Thai Foreign Ministry, the new date of the official visit has been scheduled on June 4 and 5.
Rao said the Myanmar Government would be represented by its energy minister and tourism and trade vice-minister.
Suu Kyi is expected to attend the sessions on Asian Women as the Way
Forward and The Promise and Future of Myanmar, both on Friday.
About 630 representatives from government, industries and civil societies from 50 countries are expected to attend the forum.
Meanwhile, Yellow Shirt supporters have planned to stage a street
protest on Wednesday, in a move to oppose the proposed reconciliation
bill which they claim was aimed at whitewashing any wrongdoing of former
premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
