PYAPON, MYANMAR - Smiling as she arrived at Hledon jetty, Myanmar's pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi was greeted by throngs of supporters as she made a campaign trip on Feb 17 to Pyapon township in the southern region of the country.
The National League for Democracy (NLD) is contesting all 48 vacant seats in the by-election on April 1 and, as party leader, Ms Suu Kyi has been on the campaign trail in support of her party's candidates.
In January, the NLD announced that Ms Suu Kyi would also be contesting in a Yangon neighbourhood that was hard-hit by the 2008 Cyclone Nargis.
Flanked by Thein Swe, the party candidate for Pyapon, Ms Suu Kyi was showered with flowers by supporters at her latest campaign stop.
