NUSA DUA (Bali) June 13 (Bernama) -- Indonesia has extended US$1 million to build three elementary school buildings in Rakhine state, Myanmar following recent communal conflicts in the region, Indonesian news agency ANTARA reported.
"The aid is part of efforts to settle problems in the Rakhine State," Indonesian ambassador to Myanmar Sebastianus Sumarsono said on the sidelines of an Indonesia-Myanmar bilateral meeting here Wednesday.
The schools would be completed with multi-purpose buildings for public gathering.
"Houses are also urgently needed in Rakhine as the people are still living in makeshift tens after the conflicts," Sebastianus said.
In 2008, Indonesia contributed US$1 million in aid to build a hospital located near the Andaman Sea.
Rakhine is one of the seven states in Myanmar.
