KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (Bernama) -- Some 300 Young Global Leaders
(YGLs) gathered in Yangon, Myanmar, on Monday for the Annual Summit
ahead of the World Economic Forum on East Asia, which will take place in
Myanmar's capital, Nay Pyi Taw, from June 5-7.
The summit aims to enlighten young leaders on the issues faced by
Myanmar by encouraging cross-learning with local leaders and promoting
an environment that results in tangible impacts on some of the most
pressing issues facing the country, according to a statement issued by
the World Economic Forum on Monday.
The statement said that the key part of the programme is a series of
'Impact Journeys' which focus on arts and culture, business and
entrepreneurialism, capacity building, education and healthcare,
inclusive growth, peace and reconciliation, and poverty eradication.
YGLs will be given the opportunity to visit a range of local
organisations and meet leaders and beneficiaries. The organisations
include art galleries, NGOs, businesses, social enterprises, schools,
health clinics and a peace-building centre.
This experience will enable YGLs to build lasting relationships, give
something back to organisations and the community, and share the
experience globally, according to the statement.
The YGLs come from different parts of the world, including India,
Australia, Malaysia, the US, Mexico, the UK, France, Sweden and
Singapore.
"They represent businesses, governments, civil societies, arts and
cultural enterprises, the academia and the media as well as social
entrepreneurs," said Maxwell Hall, Senior Media Manager, World Economic
Forum's Communications Department.
The Forum of Young Global Leaders is a unique, multi-stakeholder
community of more than 700 exceptional young leaders who are committed
to shaping the future of the world.
These young leaders who are under the age of 40 had been handpicked
after a strict selection process to represent the body that promotes
diversity.
