Top Chinese legislator vows to further parliamentary exchanges with Myanmar

BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Top legislator Wu Bangguo on Friday vowed to further parliamentary exchanges with Myanmar.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the pledge during a meeting with Myanmar's Speaker of the House of Representatives Thura U Shwe Mann in Beijing.

Wu hailed the friendship held between China and Myanmar, stating that bilateral ties have witnessed great progress.

He highlighted enhanced political mutual trust, understanding and support on issues concerning core interests and expanded cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, military and religion, as well as close coordination on regional and international affairs.

China will work with Myanmar to further strengthen strategic mutual trust and communication on regional and international issues, he said.

He proposed deepening cooperation in key sectors such as trade, transportation and energy, as well as consolidating ties between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Myanmar's Union Solidarity and Development Party.

Regarding parliamentary exchanges, Wu said the NPC will maintain its existing momentum and expand cooperation in supervision, legislation and governance.

Thura U Shwe Mann spoke highly of China's economic and social development, saying his country will learn from China's experience and support China's development.

The government, parliament and ruling party of Myanmar attach great importance to their relationship with China and will bolster cooperation with China in multiple fields, he said.

Thura U Shwe Mann came to Beijing on Wednesday for a five-day visit at the invitation of Wu.
